Looking at this parable a whole lot differently now that I am a parent. I used to think, "How could that father, (aka God) simply forgive the son (aka me) as if nothing happened?"
No matter how difficult my boys are, when they fall asleep everything is forgiven.
"His mercies are new every morning." God watches us as we sleep and all is forgiven, forgotten, and thrown away. He throws out sins as far as the sunrise is from the sunset.
